At Mossbourne, teaching and learning is at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is simple: to provide an exceptional education that transforms lives and empowers pupils to live life with the highest character. We develop pupils to be the next thinkers, leaders and creators.

Our curriculum is carefully designed to be balanced, enriching and stimulating, whilst meeting and exceeding the expectations set out in the National Curriculum. It is knowledge-rich and precisely sequenced to ensure that children have the knowledge they need for the next stage and make exceptional progress, no matter their starting point. It is both academically rigorous and promotes intellectual, moral, creative, emotional and physical development. The curriculum at Mossbourne is underpinned by the latest and most reliable evidence on how pupils learn and retain knowledge over time with an acute focus on research from cognitive science.

We believe in prioritising reading and language development: we recognise that words shape thoughts and understanding, and are fundamental to overcoming social disadvantage. By exposing children to rich language, we empower them to express ideas eloquently, engage with complex texts and break-down barriers to success both within, and beyond, the classroom. By focussing on oracy and spoken language, we aim to close the vocabulary gap and ensure social equity. Every child, no matter their social background, will be given the tools to be empowered communicators through our speaking curriculum. It provides pupils with the tools needed to be confident and articulate citizens where they can engage with and learn from one another.

We know that fostering curiosity and critical thinking in children is essential for their growth and development. Our curriculum is designed to develop deep knowledge and curious minds. By framing curriculum areas through the lens of ‘Key Golden Questions’, knowledge and skills are mapped, leading to ambitious end points.

We know that confidence grows from holding our children to the high standards we set for them and providing supportive feedback to help them get there. Our Route to Readiness, our commitment to developing well-rounded pupils, is a series of character-building, rich experiences that reach beyond the classroom and build identity. Our academy PRIDE values underpin every interaction: the way we develop character and how we shape our social identity and community spirit. Through these values, we foster a love of learning and establish attitudes and dispositions which set our pupils on a track to excellence.
